Electromagnetic attraction

With your mouse, roll-over this animated sketch to see the attraction (top, bottom) of radial electromagnets and the attraction (left, right) of the axial electromagnets.

In practice, these attractions are balanced in order to maintain a gap between the shaft (rotor) and static parts (stator). This is made by current modulations as shown in the next sketch

Radial bearing forces

Roll-over this animated sketch to see the orientation of the forces created by the electromagnets along V and W axis.

The center of the radial bearing is defined by the crossing of V and W axis.

The function of the magnetic bearing is to locate the shaft's rotation axis in the center, reacting to any load variation (external disturbance forces), as shown in the next sketch.
