SUBSEA ENGINEERING : START-UP OF K-LAB
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF S2M COMMISSIONING ON THE MAGNETIC BEARINGS OF THE NEW COMPRESSOR AT K-LAB TEST FACILITIES
Subsea compression is a challenging technology that requires magnetic bearings. K-Lab is the world’s first full scale subsea compression test equipment. It has been officially started on April 21 with 50 guests (including journalists, supplier companies representatives). The tuning of the magnetic bearings has been checked by S2M, the world leader of this new technology.
The compressor dedicated to sour gas, is now ready for long-term operation simulation tests.
S2M has a good experience of the tuning in this several radial and axial bearings configuration. No changes on the transfer functions were done on site, further to factory tuning with nitrogen instead of natural gas. This shows the strong tolerances of the magnetic bearings to process change.
