As part of its growing range of customer services, with the aim of passing on to customers and equipment users the knowledge and experience gained in 30 years of magnetic bearing design, S2M has been developing its training activities : the S2M Training School was set up to enable our customers to obtain a better understanding of magnetic bearing technology and its applications. An important first step was the recognition of S2M as a training center by the French Labor Ministry in 2004. As a result, in 2006 more than 130 people were trained in the "Understanding Magnetic Bearings " module.

A second step has just been reached with the creation of a 200 sq m training complex, which includes a training room with state-of-the-art presentation facilities, and a well-provided work space with a wide range of equipment.

MBC120/30-60 analog control electronics for magnetic bearings, MBC300/30 & MBC150/15 digital controls, various electronic components, a supercritical machine fitted with magnetic bearings, and auxiliary bearings are among the facilities available for visiting trainees.

The Center's expert training team has been reinforced by the appointment of Michel Boury as Training Manager.

Michel, an electronics specialist and magnetic bearings expert with a long experience of tuning and commissioning equipment, combines comprehensive theoretical knowledge with a thorough practical experience of on-site constraints and their effect on the production process.

He has taken on his new role with enthusiasm : "My aim is to provide both equipment users and OEMs with training programs which meet their expectations, and above all to demystify active magnetic bearings and improve the exchange of information with S2M. In particular, we help on-site operators to have a better understanding of S2M equipment so they can undertake faster trouble-shooting."

Training is provided both in-house at S2M headquarters in St Marcel and for operators on site, as well as for engineers and OEM project managers who are involved in designing the machines which are going to use S2M magnetic bearings.

Today two standard training programs are available (they can be downloaded from the web site), as well as customized training. S2M can define a tailor-made training module in partnership with the user, adapted to his equipment and his specific needs. Customized training is intended to provide students with practical experience that they will be able to apply when they return to their jobs. The courses are designed to meet the specific needs of the customer and are developed using the documentation prepared for the relevant customer units.
